Summary of latest Action

It has been the most consistent month so far this year! Reflecting possibly in the good stable weather we are getting!Matches have been dominated by large carp with many weights coming from the marginal areas.Groundbait seems to be playing an integral part of attracting fish not only in the margins but short pole also. Worms, maggots and casters are becoming key also as the rise in air temperature could signal a spawning period!!!! Pleasure fishing reports are very good with the canal pool being a favourite for the junior anglers.Pellets and meat appear to be the most used baits on most pools to catch both the carp and silvers.Top Weight came from Maltby man Brian Sullivan with 156lb 10oz off Moat Island peg 9

This last week has followed a similar trend to the previous one, in that the cold overnight temperatures slowed sport down for the preceding days. However, there were still some reasonable weights topped by Neil Vernon's

Dominating baits have still been expander pellet over micro feed for carp and maggots and casters for the silverfish. With the clarity of water long pole has remained esssential.Croft pool has shown the first real signs of consistency with pleasure catch reports of good nets of fish.

Last week's summary

The weather and temperatures this week have been very indifferent and the past week's results reflect on this.
The cold water temperatures still means the fish are tightly shoaled (especially the carp). However, those fortunate enough to locate them have enjoyed some good sport.
Long Pole with expanders over micro feed have caught the majority of the larger species(carp and bream)with bomb and meat/corn also being successful. This weeks top match weight came from Maltby angler Brian Sullivan from Moat Island peg 61 (73lb 0oz).
Those anglers adopting a silverfish approach have found success with both the skimmers, bream and roach, with maggot ,caster and groundbait proving to be a winner.

2010 MATCH REVIEW AND RESULTS

The past year at hallcroft has been one of ,if not the most productive angling year of the venues history. We have witnessed not just one lake record broken, but 2 (Bridge and Moat Pools). Both achievements came from Steve Baraclough (Maver Barnsley Blacks) who broke the elusive 200lb barrier on both occasions.
Pleasure catches have also been tremendous in both quantity and varied species with the diversity that the venue now has to offer.

Croft Pool was stocked last year with large numbers of quality silvers (Tench to 3lb, Roach to 1lb, Rudd to 1lb and skimmers up to 2lb), these have responded well along with the resident carp to 10lb.Top match weight was 104lb 12oz from peg 19 using chopped worm and caster.

Bridge Pool  150 carp to 5lb were introduced into bridge in November 2010.
Top match weight last year was 201lb from Bridge Island peg 13 caught on corn over groundbait in the margins.

Moat Pool  250 carp to 5lb have also been introduced(November) into the largest lake moat.
Top Match Weight last year was 254lb 11oz (VENUE RECORD) from moat island peg 30 the successful tactic again was corn over groundbait in the margins.

Reed continues to remain popular amongst the pleasure anglers with mixd species to aim for and the possibility of a 20lb plus carp. Top Match weight was 124lb from peg 24 caught on paste at 7m over hemp and pellet feed.

Canal The newest lake to the fishery continues to go from strength to strength with the excellent sport the residing stockie carp to 2lb offer.Top Match Weight was 186lb 12oz from peg 7 caught on pellet and paste on short pole.

River Idle despite the low water levels there were still some quality fish to be caught with chub to 5lb and barbel to 12lb recorded.Halibut pellet ovr a bed of hemp and pellet seemed to be the top tactic along with late afternoon  sessions.
